Cageside Fight Co - preview of UFC 152
UFC 152 – Jon “Bones” Jones vs. Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort.
This upcoming Saturday night UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones prepares to make the fourth defense of his title against the always dangerous UFC veteran Vitor Belfort at UFC 152 from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Dan Henderson was originally scheduled to face off against Jones, but he was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a knee injury. That’s when the opportunity presented itself to Belfort (21-9), the game Brazilian veteran and former UFC light heavyweight champion.
Whether or not Belfort can present a challenge remains to be seen.
However, the man also known as “The Phenom” is no stranger to stiff competition as he’s won some and lost a few against a who’s-who of MMA stars throughout his 15 year career. Belfort’s biggest victories have come against former MMA champions Randy Couture, Wanderlei Silva, and Rich Franklin.
Since rejoining the UFC in 2009, Belfort has compiled a record of 3-1, with the loss coming at the hands of Cageside's current Pound 4 Pound King Anderson Silva in 2011.
Jones (16-1) is a 25-year-old American MMA stud who has been on quite a tear since turning pro in 2008. He has amassed victories over the likes of Brandon Vera, Stephan Bonnar, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Lyota “The Dragon” Machida, and Rashad “Suga” Evans. His only blemish was a disqualification against Matt Hamill.
Most MMA experts hold the opinion that while Belfort is a solid opponent, he doesn’t have what it takes to dethrone the beast that is Jon Jones. Jones has not only defeated quality opponents at light heavyweight, in many cases he has utterly annihilated them.
Belfort will surely have a tall mountain to climb. We (Cageside) will be rooting for Belfort but it's hard to imagine he can beat Jones.
Notable Undercard Bouts

Michael Bisping vs. Brian Stann – This bout could be decided by the first solid punch that connects. Cageside's pick: STANN
Matt Hamill vs. Roger Hollett – One has to favor Hamill by a wide margin since this is huge step up for Hollett. Cageside's pick: HAMILL
Cub Swanson vs. Charles Oliveira – This match may prove to be the sleeper of the night. Cageside's pick: OLIVEIRA
